When you hear of Remote work, what comes to mind? Well as for me, I picture someone in pyjamas typing away at their keyboards, with a cup of coffee on the table in a room filled with personal paraphernalia. In my head, it's giving chill and it's giving soft life. But is that really what it is?
Well, in reality, it's not so different. Trust me, all those zoom meetings were attended by half dressed individuals. But away from the absolute comfort that remote work offers you, I have compiled 7 more reasons why you should resign your current job (no jokes) and go fully remote.
Remote work wasn't really a rave before the lockdown but after the COVID-19 pandemic, it became evident that the remote work structure has come to stay. Even some jobs that are not fully remote these days now offer hybrid structures, where workers alternate between working from home and working from the office on specified days.
Enough talk..let's dive right in!
1. Work-Life Balance, the Digital Way
One of the most significant advantages of remote work is the flexibility it offers. You can design your schedule around your personal life, allowing you to attend other commitments without compromising your job. This reduces stress makes it easier to enjoy life both in and out of work. You can work while listening to your favorite songs, and basically do other stuffs that may not be permitted in an office setting provided you deliver quality.
2. Cost Savings
With the current cost of transportation? Remote work all day, every day please! Not just that you get to save your precious money on transportation, you also get to save on other cravings you'd normally indulge in if you were in the office. Did I mention that you no longer have to take your colleagues out for lunch anymore? Yep, add that in. As a remote worker, so far your cabinet is stocked with food and there's enough power to get you through work, you're good to go.
3. Unleash Your Productivity
If you live and breath office drama, then remote work is probably not for you. But if you're like me that just wants all the peace and quietude in the world so my creative juices can flow, then consider working remotely. In the comfort of your home, you can spread your wings and fly, literally. Many remote employees find that they can complete their work more efficiently and effectively, especially when removed from 'toxic' work environments.
4. Hello Global Job Market!
When you're not tied to a specific location, the job market opens up considerably. Remote work allows you to apply for positions with companies around the world, giving you access to opportunities that you might not have had otherwise. This is especially beneficial for individuals in areas with limited job prospects.
5. Even Nature wants you to work remotely
Remote work is better for the environment. By eliminating the need for a daily commute, you contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions. Fewer cars on the road mean less air pollution and a smaller carbon footprint. This makes remote work an excellent choice for those who are environmentally conscious and want to make a positive impact on the planet. Remote work is pro Green Earth. Remember this when making your decision.
6. Improved Health and Wellness
Working remotely can have a positive effect on your health. The flexibility to create a comfortable and personalized work environment can reduce stress and improve mental health. Additionally, without the time-consuming traffic to and fro work, you have more time to exercise, cook healthy meals, and get sufficient rest, leading to a healthier lifestyle overall.
7. Design Your Dream Workspace
Some office spaces (to no fault of theirs) do not allow for individual creativity. Either the furniture is uncomfortable (and you've complained to the HR but they're doing nothing) or the space is cramped or something just doesn't sit right. But with remote work, you can customize your workspace to your taste and need, leading to a more enjoyable work experience. This in turn leaves you happy and satisfied, so you are more engaged and committed to your work.
Away from these benefits, there are some disadvantages that can be associated with remote work such as increased workload, instability of power, network issues and an almost non-existent social life, but all these can be mitigated.
If you haven't been thinking of working remotely before, I hope I have been able to convince you. And if you currently a remote worker, what benefits do you enjoy that I left out? Let me know in the comments below!
